Music & Me: The Big Three

Hey guys! My name is Tessa Kramer and I'm a sophomore here at Converse University. I'm currently a psychology major pursuing a double major in pre-physical therapy who is very passionate about sports psych and rehabilitation. I've been involved with running and sports all my life and have moved on to running track at Converse. Outside of all that, I very much enjoy outdoor recreation (hiking, climbing, yoga, etc), running, and reading. I grew up doing a lot of these activities with music to keep me and my friends company, so while I may not perform or play, I have enjoyed listening to and learning about all the different genres and passions.

I've enjoyed my time at Converse so far, so here are a few pictures of my current life/family back home.

Runnin

Gabe dying on a hike in Utah
Music obsessed dad who gave me life. 90s R&B/Hiphop and Classic rock lover.

Here are some of my big three's in music:

1.  One of my current go-to's is probably some Kid Cudi, specifically his song called Down & Out, released in 2008. This was my top-played song of last month and it's probably because he just released his first reissue mixtape of all of his fan faves. Alternative Hip-hop/Rap has been on my radar as of late :)

2.  There's no doubt that music is always playing in the background of whatever I'm doing- from country, classical, hip-hop, musicals, alternative, blues- the list goes on. I don't discriminate when it comes to listening to something new. However, 70s music and alternative/indie/rock have always had a little hold on me since I was a kid. Something about it is just calming and comforting. During my initial transition to Converse, there were plenty of songs that conveniently resurfaced to make memories with new people in a new town which has made my playlists even more meaningful.  Here are a few songs that I just smile at thinking of all the memories I've made with them.

Buwan - Juan Karlos
Filipino Rock Band
Mom translated with me and I've brought this song to some past skate park sessions with Kerrigan/Gabe. This band along with some others has a big part in what I listened to with my family and friends from high school, and I'm excited that I brought it here with me.

Steely Dans Can't Buy a Thrill Album
Fire in the hole
OOOOOOO, this song and I go way back. This album has and probably always will be one of my favorites. Jazz-rock is a perfect example of which songs accompanied me all throughout middle and high school.

Motherless Child Sweetwater
ok, swear this is the last one. This was the song that I listened to the most first semester of last year. I showed this song to everyone I knew after I heard it for the first time. Honestly, I think it was played almost every time I was invited somewhere. Therefore, it just makes me happy hearing it and celebrating the memories I created.

3. Some music I have just not been feeling lately:

I can't give you a genre that I don't like- I'll even listen to EDM.
BUTTT Hear me out, I used to love this song. Right now, it's overstimulating me, I hear it ALL the time and it is so slow for my current mood lately. Usually a mac lover, but it's been meh to me lately.

Mac Demarco's: For the First Time

Comments

  1. I love the inclusion of alternative hip hop (a genre I also discussed as my favorite). The instrumental is really cool on Motherless Child, that's a song I had never heard before. I have to agree that a lot of Mac Demarco's music requires a certain mood. I either listen to full albums, or skip every Mac song on my playlist there is no in between.

  2. Hey teammate! I really enjoyed reading your blog. I have never heard “ Down & Out” so I was really excited to listen to it for the first time because I love listening to new music. I enjoyed the song, it was definitely more of a vibe/chill hip-hop song, and I like that.

  3. Although I've made my comments, I just wanted to tell you I really like that first picture of you in the blocks and that photographer deserves a raise ;). It is also v ery nice to see another kid cuddi fan as I don't know many people that listen to him still and I grew up listening to sand loving his music.

  4. Hey Tess, you have introduced me to a lot of music and my father also introduced me to a lot of music, and although I have branched away from some of his interests he is still unquestionably who inspired my love of music.
